The Storm

A spring sky turned green
And black clouds smash,
Together; they take over the day.

Lightning flash warns,
My heart goes to the wind,
Wanders for safety–
Cower-clap of thunder!

To my bed I smuggle
Under blankets and treetop
Waves crash like an ocean
Until I’m asleep.

*Pearls are the motif of the day. The word smash was the writer’s group prompt, the irritant.

“Like the sand and the oyster, it’s a creative irritant. In each poem, I’m trying to reveal a truth, so it can’t have a fictional beginning.”
–Carol Ann Duffy, Scottish poet
